The militants rented the ground floor flat of the three-storey Surja Villa on Mashjid Road in Dhaka’s Dakkhin Khan’s Ashkona area five months ago.

Their tenant information forms were submitted to the local police.

The owner of the house, Jamal Uddin, is an expatriate currently living in Kuwait.

A man named Imtiaz Ahmed rented the flat five months ago saying he is an online businessman, Jamal Uddin’s daughter Jonaki said.

Imtiaz along with his wife, child and younger sister used to live there since then, she said.

“I didn’t see Imtiaz and his family much often,” the daughter said.
